The first year they sleep, the second year they creep, the third year they leap.

My cats, dog and I moved into a lovely older home almost seven years ago. Moving from a much larger to a very much smaller house has been an incredibly cluttered experience. I'm still trying to find, arrange and consolidate all of the materials and supplies I use in my art and various interests. It's been a long haul.

Two years ago I had my back yard cleared and interior chain link fencing removed. It was beyond overgrown with Bittersweet vines that had attached themselves to anything and everything, killing what ever it covered. Bittersweet may have its place in someone's garden, but I fear I'll be battling it for the rest of my existence. Some of the roots are as big around as my wrist!

Last year I fenced the back and side border of my yard with stockade panels, and divided a smaller portion off with a coordinating picket fence to create a place to let my dog out without having to tie her up. (more about my dog later. She is a sweetie.)

This year I had a stamped concrete patio installed, and am planting a cottage style perennial garden around the inside border of the enclosed area. Having gone through this 20+ years ago with new construction, I knew what I was up against, and how long it will take for my vision to come to fruition. But no matter - every journey begins with one step.
